A restaurant brand of our very own!

The Dynamo was born when The Plant's Creative Director, Matt Utber and his cycle buddy Tim Molema finally realised their vision of a cycle cafe that served great food to not only cyclists but locals too.

First launched in Putney in 2015, the aim of the space was to not only fuel cyclists with healthy tasty food, but create a culture that revolves around bikes, great coffee and great food. The logo is a gentle reflection of sports brands of the 20th century, with a wink to Kraftwerk's Tour de France cover .

From the interiors to the staff uniforms this was our baby, and certainly helped us to understand the commitment and focus that our clients need to launch a food business. Having succesfully operate our Putney trestaurant, we launched a second site in Balham in 2017.

The philosophy of the business was very clear right from the begining. It's easy to understand and is a mantra for staff, locals and cyclists alike!

Here it is...

Spanning Melbourne-style breakfasts and brunches in the mornings through to wood-fired sourdougn pizza in the evenings, we needed to create a flexible menu and menu system that could encompass the different food available throughout the day.

Throughout the restaurant there are small details that are aimed at raising a smile.

It's the details that count, right?

The lovely pizza oven has come all the way from Naples and is called Gloria. She sits proudly in the interior of the space and is good not only for cooking great pizzas but for warming up on a cold day.

The space is filled with cycling history, from original Tour de France cycle jerseys from the 70s, to one of the first titanium framed bikes built by Colnago in the 2000s. Hung upside down, of course!

This vintage bike was ridden by Malcolm Elliot in the 1984 Milk Cup, which he won.

The oversized yellow door is a consistent feature at both sites, and not only allows easy access to bikes and prams, but gives you something to aim for!
